Never having shown an interest in an activity as “wimpy” as yoga, Abby was an avid competitive sports player. Over the years, despite feeling strong, she began to notice physical issues that were not responding to her usual regimen. Just as she was planning to have surgery, at the behest of her friends, she finally started exploring different yoga classes. At Kripalu, in an atmosphere of acceptance and awareness, her love affair with yoga began.
Abby’s desire for a dedicated practice led to a 200-hr teacher training at Yoga High in New York’s Lower East Side. With a seeker’s mind, whose appetite had just been whetted, she signed up for the follow-up advanced 300-hr training. The combination of personal experience and education created a theme in Abby’s teaching in which safety and a fully immersed experience are paramount. Not your typical 20-something yoga teacher, her students benefit from a maturity that was forged from a myriad of life experiences. She teaches self-acceptance and self-value while offering a practice that is challenging and interesting.
Abby’s desire for in-depth knowledge of the physical body’s experience in yoga has led her to apprentice with SMARTer Bodies. Abby believes that yoga is NOT about going to the end-range of motion which goes hand-in-hand with SMARTer Yoga. SMARTer Bodies and SMARTer Yoga create a functional and efficient practice for each individual, even in a group class and Abby is helping SMARTerBodies get that message out! Abby’s diverse education includes a Bachelor’s degree in social work and certifications as a Health Coach, Pilates teacher and Karuna Reiki master.
